In the middle of 1997, a small group of 36 mills chained themselves by hand-in-hand and paved the way to the emergence of the TASMA - Tamilnadu Spinning Mills Association. Earlier there was no effective representative body, exclusively to represent and address the problems and grievances of the spinning mills as a whole. The Association with the able Leadership of the President Mr. A. P. Appukutty (Chairman cum Managing Director of Chola Group of Textile Mills) and the Vice President Mr. P. V. Chandran (Chairman cum Managing Director of Ambika Group of Cotton Mills), started to penetrate subsequently in all the spheres of the common issues related to every mills' administration. Apart from the above activities, TASMA is also encouraging its members towards Green / Renewable Energy investments like Wind, Solar, etc. TASMA is also seriously engaged in Skill Development activities in alignment with the Government of India's mission to eradicate unemployment and poverty.
